Re-Do!!!

UH OH! My new client called because she wants me to refine her haircut. This could be a major uncomfortable thing.... BUT>>>> I'm using it as an opportunity to show her the great service that she can expect from Matthew Ray Salon!
Actually, when I did her hair we styled it in a completly different way then what she normally does. She was happy with it. I was thrilled.
AND, I did tell her that if she stlyed it later and wasn't as thrilled to come back in and we will 'refine' the cut!
So, the good thing is that she listened to me. And took me up on it. There is nothing worse then letting a client walk out and feel like they cannot come back if there is not something they are 100% satisfied with.
Some of my favoriet restaurants are the ones where there might have been an issue and they way they handled it keeps me coming back time and time again. My example would be Morton's in Burbank. We had an undercooked steak, no big deal we sent it back and they burnt it. Obviously we upset the cook. When the manager stopped by we told him what happened and he completely took care of us. Now I am a card carrying VIP of Morton's because we go back so often! It is the KNOWING that they want us happy.
So, that was a very valuable lesson to me. I cannot be 100% perfect ( I know I think it sometimes! ) so on those times, I need to admit it and fix the issue as quickly and pleasantly as I can.
So, hopefully my next client will be a card carrying VIP member for James Jordan at Matthew Ray Salon!

So here is a new site that I found. I am still learning about it. Basically it is blogging but you raise money for charities and yourself? So there are website featured on your blog and if people click or buy stuff through them you get a part of the click and you can choose how much goes to charity. Does anyone have any experience with them?

look good - thanks Roberta!

This is an interesting site. Some of the suggestions are good some are just funny. I think it makes sense to be aware of your sun exposre. And eat well and drink lots of water and get some rest now and then. Then you will look your best. Oh yea get some excersize and don't smoke. But I won't say a thing about candy. I think candy has vitamins. Vitamin C! C for candy!

shopburbank.org - how to grow our business?

So, I signed up for shopburbank.org hopefully this will get us a few new clients. Right now we are trying to get new people in the door. It seems like our existing clients are happy and coming in. It is just that the new customer base has dropped off.

Some of the reasons: Our salon doesn't come up as high on searches. When we first opened it was always on the first page. But no more. The economy. That's all I have to say about that.... Less people moving to Burbank(?). We aren't here set hours. All of our reviews were taken off of Yelp. We are missing about 7 reviews from customers from Yelp.

Some things we are doing to get the word out there.... I bought an ad on google search for Los Angeles, Burbank etc so that a text ad comes up for Matthew Ray Salon with a discount on services. ( I Know I know it is bad to discount services but we need to get some new people in the door ! )This week we had 38 clicks on the ad and a couple of phone calls.
We got some good exposure in the Hairdressing Trade Magazines. I send out a thank you card to all my new customers and give them cards. I think I might start doing a referral program. I am asking people what would give them an incentive to recommend us. Money off? Free product? Getting out and just meeting people. That is one of the best ways to get some. You just always have to have cards with you!
Participating with shop burbank. I guess it is a campaign with some Burbank businesses. They all do a discount of some sort. Not really sure how it works but we are on their website as an offer off with James or Allison for new clients.

I have also been trying to do more postings to this blog. (not that anyone reads it) But one day someone will!

Maybe we should put Matthew's Emmy in the window? I was also thinking to maybe do something with Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. You know if you lose some weight you always feel like a new person. How great to finish off the whole process with a whole new cut & color?

If you have any ideas, please post your comments! Thank you!!!

Let's see if this works.

This is a test to link my blog to my facebook page. It is getting kinda hard to keep all these sites liked up. Facebook 1 & 2, Twitter, Blogger, etc etc etc.

Los Angeles Magazine - Best of LA

Los Angeles Magazine - Best of LA

The difference between a $30 cut & a $400 cut. I like the concept of this. Our prices are higher than the lowest but NOT in the $400 range!

To me it is based on time. What is it worth the stylist to work and get clients to pay it. Once a stylist is popular he/she can beging charging more. Supply and demand.

What do you think????

Love to get some comments on this one.

new look to our website!

http://www.matthewraysalon.com

so I spent all day and night updating our website. I was using sitebuilder but then it freaked out and I lost a bunch of my pages and stuff. So, a client of ours told us about site solution on Yahoo.

So, I tried it and it is sooooo easy and great. The site looks much better I think.

Let me know what you think.

Take a look!

If it isn't there yet, try to refresh your browser or let me know cuz it might be a glitch in switching over the site from one to the other.

Thank you!

James

New hairstyle ideas

So, where do we get new ideas from? I really say the most easily accessed is the magazines. We make sure that we get a range of magazines that show everything from fashion to red carpet styles.

At Matthew Ray Salon, we are all exposed to our own world of beauty and need to see what is being shown to the public.

Even though Matthew works on television he still is seeing what the directors/actors want to see. Through this the customer ends up getting influenced on what they are looking for.

Norma and Allison work on photoshoots & videos and those also have a special look they are going for. What ends up happening is their clientele starts to represent their work because those people are being attracted by what they are seeing.

So, I went to visit Ilana at her school today. She shaped my brows with wax and tweezers and gave me a facial with peel and galvanic current!

I feel so good from it. She is really a natural. Hopefully, when she graduates, she will come work at our salon and share her magic hands with our clients!

Hotel Gig

So, I did a blow-out on Jamie Colby from FOX news. She was in town for some high level meetings and to promote her book. You have to go buy it. I think it is on Amazon now but look for it in Feb of 2010.

She is so great and nice. My friends Maureen/Gavina/Jeison work on her daily. I am so jealous.

permits & air conditioners

So the fun part of owning a business (NOT!) is when things go wrong. So the sign company didn't get a permit for the banner sign. So we got a call from the city. I had to run down and get a permit for $55 for two weeks. Then it has to come down.

The sign company said they made a mistake (yeah, really?) and they would credit us and make a new sign and get a permit this time. Let's see.

Then of course, our compressor went out on our Air Conditioner. Of Course, it was 104 that day!!! We ended up just getting a new unit rather than wait until monday possibly for the part. Well, it came in this morning!! Thursday. The aircon guy made some cashola from us!!!

Maintain your aircon units!!! It is important. Who knew????

elton

I'm there more now

Since the P&G lay off, I am at the salon every day. I have been getting at least one new client a day from the website or referals. On Saturday I got this cute couple as clients. They were adorbale. She is like 2 weeks away from a baby. They were so funny because they were trying to get me to help them figure out how to break up with their current hairdresser.

I think it is important to find out what they were missing from her service so that I can learn from it and try to not do those things so I can keep them as clients for life.

Last week Matthew and I got our photos taken for some stuff for Salon City Magazine. I can't wait to see what they do with them.
