Beautiful Long Layered Haircut

The most beautiful hair is often something very close to what you already have - just a little better.  James created this look on his client by working with her natural texture and subtly lifting her color 1 shade to create warmth and shine.  His client comes to the salon ever 6 weeks to maintain this look.  He cuts the ends of her hair to keep it healthy and to help it grow.

The Color:

Using Wella's Koleston Perfect he subtly lifted her natural haircolor to warm up her base.  She has 'old' highlights from her last visit that blend beautifully with the color.  The highlights are done every 2 or three visits depending on how they are feeling about the color.

The Cut:

The layers were created by holding the hair out from the head and cutting from the shortest point from the crown to meet the length of the ends.  This allows for this beautiful bouncy style.

The Style:

James detangled her hair with Tina Riana detangling spray. After combing he distributed KMS California Styling Foam throughout the hair lengths to hold the curls.  He blow dried with an Ergo large round brush for volume and smoothness.  Using a large barrel curling iron he curled the hair away from the face.  He then brushed out her hair and distributed 3 pumps of the Wella hair oil we have previously reviewed through the ends for shine and separation of the curls.

Our Favorite New Hair Product For Winter - Wella Oil Reflections

We recently received samples of the NEW Wella Oil Reflections from our salesperson and immediately fell in love with this new product!

In winter time we tend to have our heat cranked up which sucks all the moisture out of the air.  This then sucks all the moisture out of your hair too making it brittle, frizzy and dull looking.  Well we found a great solution to help us through these dried out months!

Oil Reflections is a smoothing oil with Vitamin E, Macadamia Seed Oil and Avocado Oil.  Not only does it nourish your hair making it beautiful, it also smells fantastic!

Another great thing is that you can use it in different ways:
- mix it in to your conditioner for a more intense effect
- apply it to your hair just before you start blow drying for smoothening making your hair feel delicious!
- apply to dry hair especially on the tips to make your hair SHINE without an oily feel

Stop by and pick up your bottle at Matthew Ray Salon while supplies last!

The Newest Secret For Keeping Your Extensions From Falling Out!

Did you know that Silicone and Oils can make your extensions slip or even fall out? They can degrade the bond or even build up on the hair. With other shampoos, if you do not clarify the hair before the application of extensions the bond doesn't attach fully to the hair strand.
We have been excited to learn about the new Tina Riana hair care line that solves this annoying problem. They have created a shampoo with no oil, silicone, sulfate, and parabens that is safe to use on all types of extensions and hair types.  This allows you to cleanse your hair, extensions and scalp without having to worry about loosening the bonds! Another benefit to these ingredient deletions is the shampoo helps to preserve your hair color longer than a normal shampoo!
For clients who are using this shampoo on a regular basis there isn't the need to clarify prior to the bonding.
The luxurious feeling of the product and smell are another big seller.

They also offer a conditioner, detangling spray and styling spray.  Rumor has it there are new products due out soon!

5 Thing To Do To Keep Your Extensions Looking Good

Extensions are the big rage right now.  Clients looking to extend the length of their hair, get through that awkward grow out period or even just to add more bulk to their styles are jumping in on the craze. Here are some of the tips we share with our clients to make sure they keep their extensions looking great between visits.

1. Buy good quality hair. We are currently using 808 or 909 Keratip extensions.
2. Use the right shampoo for your hair texture.
3. Keep oils and silicons off the bond.
4. Brush your hair every day between the bond for no tangles. We LOVE our friend Brent's brush!
5. Before bed do a simple braid to make sure that your hair stays tangle free.

On James' client above he first colored her hair then used three different colors of extensions by alternating a dark blonde, warm blonde and bright blonde to add length for his client while she grows out her natural hair.
